Bart Muys is professor at KU Leuven, Division of Forest, Nature and Landscape. His interests and expertise include:
- Sustainable development and forest management
- Planning and decision support for sustainable land and forest management
- Indicators of sustainable forest management, including energy balance, greenhouse gas balance and nutrient balance
- Restoration ecology of tropical dry forests
- Modeling and planning of sustainable forest projects in the framework of the Kyoto-Protocol
Some of his recent research projects are:
- FORBIO - Assessment of the effects of tree species diversity on forest biodiversity and ecosystem functioning (2009-2020)
- Forest management strategies to enhance the mitigation potential of European forests (FORMIT) (2012-2016)
- Monitoring vegetation dynamics and carbon stocks in complex landscapes under variable climate conditions (2011-2015)
- Enhancing life cycle GHG accounting of biofuels (2011-2015)
- Estimation of above ground carbon stocks and biodiversity of different land use systems around Kisangani (2011-2012)
