Monique Carnol

Monique Carnol is Professor at the Department of Biology, Ecology and Evolution, University of Liège in Belgium. She made her PhD on ‘Nitrogen deposition and nitrification in coniferous forests’. The nitrification of forest soils is the guiding thread of all her work. During her contract as a FNRS researcher (1999-2002) she also specialised in the application of molecular biology techniques to the study of nitrifying bacteria during a post-doctoral four month study placement in the Netherlands (Netherlands Institute of Ecology Centre for Terrestrial Ecology, Heteren, NL). Made a lecturer in October 2002 she now teaches plant ecology, microbe ecology and environmental microbiology, and directs the Microbial and Plant Ecology Laboratory.
